Update and plans

Hello you all!

It’s Susie. Along with making money, getting in shape, and mentally preparing for our trip next summer the three of us want to focus on a certain part of ourselves we’d like to grow. Our next entries will be about those qualities. I would like to write down mine but I need to talk to the Ke’ala and Kymmy about it! :OP.

Our blog is about our journey to making a 2000 mile longboarding trek next summer. We will be trying to earn money for this trip and college (It’ll be my senior year after this next year!), learn about the longboarding community, and help the longboarding community grow (We have already started that in our home town one curious friend/acquaintance at a time!). We know this journey will be a hard one but we are willing to do it. “Your only young once!”

Thanks,
Susie Edwardson

aloha-ish

hullo. my name is keala and i food, the last samurai, music, jesus, and being happy. if your reading this blog, i hope you are being happy too. :)

i wont lie, i had no idea there was a difference between longboarding and skateboarding at first. then i discovered you go faster on a longboard, three guesses what boarding style i have? and the first two guesses dont count.

before longboarding, i have been on a board 4 times prior. snowboard, and i liked it, mos def, even if i never did it as much as my peers. i couldnt afford too really, so this carried until first year of college, until my friend offered to teach me longboarding. that didnt work until summer, two months ago, when i did learn. theres nothing quite like a first major fall at 32 mph straight onto the gravely pavement to get an major addiction started, can you relate?

freakin' A!

thats my story. hope you guys haven't gotten board. knee slapper! no? anyways, as far as long term planning goes- we want to longboard across the country. simple, until it happens, so we need all the support we can get so we don't back out. i hope this gives whoever reads this blog incentive to add us and support us even if it is just by "friending" us.

money would also help, but im not trying to put words in your mouth. just a thought. hahaha, just kidding, although we would like to fundraise for a good cause, and im favoring the Project AK-47.

have you seen blood diamond (blooddiamondmovie.warnerbrothers.com/main.html)? or ever read a long way gone (alongwaygone.com)? do you know that child soilders still exist in the world? some as young as 3 years old? i don't love children, for serious, but i want to help this project in everyway i can to help children who never chose this life to escape this bondage. make a child as happy i am! if you want too, visit projectak47.com. trust me, i haven't even touched on the subject.

wow, i got way serious back there. blacked out completely, but im back! anyways, friend us, cause we love you. im going to hawaii this year for college, big island, yah! so if you want to hit me up, do so and we can hold hands in the bathroom or you can teach me to surf (i really want to surf!) or improve my mad ukulele skills and gain many fond hospital visits from longboarding down mountains, ci amigo?

thanks

oh. and btw, helmets may not be cool. but neither is splattered brains. please keep them on.

Susie's Intro

Hello,
Susie Edwardson.
Junior in College.
Haida.
and Quite adorable.

Snowboarding is what got me curious about longboarding.
A year ago if you asked me what a longboard is I'd say "Why are you asking me that? Ask a construction worker." I've learned a lot in a year. I learned from all my friend's on the mountain that longboarding was the closest I could get to snowboarding during the non-snowy months.

Last year I worked full time as a intern for the State of Alaska, hula danced with my friends(Kymmy, Keala and Mikko!), and took a math course at the college. This summer I work as an intern for the State of Alaska, snowboarded at Mt. Hood last month, and longboarded every sunny day(Which is like 2-3 a week or less)Juneau has had. Rainy days are spent planning trips.

The sound of the pavement can't rival the sound of my snowboard scraping the snow but it still is a beautiful sound. Carving is kinda like linking turns on my snowboard but without the bindings not 100% the same. I'm not trying to bash longboarding and it feels like I'm compairing apples and oranges. Some pros to longboarding way cheaper then snowboarding and I can get more then a face tan. I could compare the two all day but I wont(don't want to scare ya away, if I hadn't already!)

The rest of this summer will be great. We will have reviews and pictures or roads for longboarding; in Juneau, Canada, Washington and maybe the Coast of Oregon. Reviews on our current boards and any new products we get for longboarding. Keala's second year of college will be in Hawaii, so she will have reviews on that. We will write about our learning progress too!
